Christmas Tree and Polar Bears

Last night Charlie and I finally bought a live Christmas tree.

We haven't taken the time to set the tree up properly yet.

So far it’s sitting in the tree stand in the living room — undecorated.

Not yet sure of the technique I'm going to use to polarize these bears.

I also was given a celebration of polar bears. (Yepper, a group of the white growlers is called a celebration.)

I liked these bears as soon as I saw them.

My plan is to whitewash them and give them a little polar personality.

A simple expression of polar bears -- simple enough for me.

I’m using this very spare print (above) as a guide. I found it here.

I hope to put mine (the smaller one) to use this weekend.

And I ordered a polar bear cookie cutter from ecrandal.com which is on its way.

Do you prefer to decorate with a theme or run with random creativity?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. No theme – just will I get the tree decorated or not? At least it’s up now. I think it will be minimal tree decorations this year, but who knows. So far I’ve done more than I thought I would do this year. Your celebration of polar bears look good, even unpainted. Have fun with that project.

    1. Charlie always asks, “Why _______?” (polar bears this time) It just strikes me and I want to do it. That’s my rhyme and reason. So glad you’re progressing beyond your expectations.Jo

  2. Love the bears, and they will look cute whitewashed. No themes for me. All I did this year was put up the tree … no other decorations to get in the way of painting (she says).
