Renovating an old house by a musical couple who want to live there the rest of their lives.
The Blizzard of 2016
We have had more than 2 feet of snow over the past weekend.
As always I am happy to stay in the house and putter around.
Charlie, on the other hand, likes to get out and get shoveling.
We couldn’t get out the conservatory door because snow had blown up against it.
But Charlie wanted to get onto the conservatory roof to lighten the snow; the conservatory roof is also the deck off the master bedroom.
In the meantime I spent part of my time organizing bank statements and tax papers. I haven’t actually filed away any paperwork since the renovation began in 2013 but things are getting more or less back to normal except for the occasional project where we have to empty a room.
For now I’ll be happy to gaze upon the things we have finished, or nearly so.
When trapped in the house do you get cabin fever? Or are you happy for a break?
Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights.
We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house.
Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

I wish I was stuck inside my house! They don’t cancel school for anything. It could be -100 and a snowy hurricane and we’d still have to go! 😉 lol
I used to live in western Pennsylvania where nothing was ever cancelled for snow. I’m happy to stay in for a few days. No cabin fever for me; Charlie is going stir crazy calling everyone he knows on the phone. Ha ha. Jo
I like snow that comes and goes quickly–which yours won’t! Fortunately we can walk to stores and restaurants, so if we’re snowed in (it’s never happened), we can get out of the cabin! I do get fever! Take it easy, you two!

I can busy mysrlf…or not…at home for days. It doesn’t happen that often that I don’t get out, but after a few days I am ready to go.
We’re still not plowed out over 48 hours later. I’m just taking it easy. Jo
I’m always happy for the break as long as it doesn’t last more than a day or two.
I was all set to get some things done around the house and instead was laid low with a stomach bug. Rats! Jo
That’s disappointing!

Walking to stores and restaurants is a huge plus. I’m back at work this morning and happy to be here. Jo
Wow! So much snow! Stay safe and warm!
We’re finally plowed out! Jo
It depends on how long I’m trapped there. I wish we had been trapped in a little longer last weekend. The snow is practically all gone here already!
We’re pretty clear here but schools are out for the rest of the week. Jo
