Getting Ready to Tango

For a long time Charlie and I have been wanting to take ballroom dance lessons (#17 on my 101 tasks in 1001 days list).

This will be our dance hall.

Since I have danced before I thought a ballroom overview class might be too much for Charlie to learn. So to simplify the whole process I started looking for a tango class.  Not just tango, Argentine tango.

Tango

I have never before tangoed and it always looks so beautiful when someone else does it.  Not to mention the music is great.

My shoes have reasonable 2-inch heels.

We knew we would need leather soled shoes to make the pivots easier. I pulled out my old Capezio dance shoes — the ones without taps.

My Capezio dancing shoes.

I tried them on and they still fit like a glove. Unfortunately while I was taking them off the little bit of elastic that holds on the buckle snapped.

The repair elastic repair is neat.

I took the shoes to our local cobbler who replaced the elastic buckle loops in both shoes — just in case.

My shoes on the left; Charlie’s on the right.

The new 6-week session begins March 27 in downtown Baltimore.  Check out the website: El Otro Beso.

Do you dance?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Your dance hall is beautiful! And your shoes look experienced. I took dance classes all through my twenties (no ballroom, though), but I’m sure my shoes wouldn’t fit anymore. Have fun!
