Renovating an old house by a musical couple who want to live there the rest of their lives.
Another Shorter Road Trip
A few weeks ago we hustled ourselves down to Richmond, Virginia, and found ourselves tied up in traffic for hours and hours. Today we’re off to western Maryland to look at discount fabrics and to find a waterfall with the expectation that traffic will not be our nemesis this time.
We’ll swing by Clark’s Hardware to have Charlie’s dirt soil measured for pH and any other information the pro can give us.
I’m looking for two candelabra sockets so I can rewire a lamp for our closet. I’ve been to Lowes, Home Depot, and Capital TriState lighting supply so far and no one has this particular socket in stock.
Maybe Clark’s can also help in this department.
Then we’re off to Frederick, Maryland, to find a discount fabric store called Discount Fabric, USA. I’m hoping for a great selections with deep discounts. I’ll let you know.
Finally, the highpoint of the trip is finding a natural waterfall in Maryland. I did a lot of waterfall chasing in Hawaii and was not disappointed. I love waterfalls and was excited to find one here in my home state.
Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights.
We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house.
Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

I’d have to say natural hot springs are one of the more amazing things I’ve seen. Went to Idaho once, years ago and we’d be driving along a road and see steam billowing. We’d pull over, hop out of the car and dip our feet in it 🙂 Good luck at the discount fabric store!
That waterfall is gorgeous! Hope you found everything you went looking for! I thought the lava tube we walked through in Hawaii was the coolest wonder of nature i’ve seen yet, but waterfalls are right up there!

Hot springs sound lovely. Mmmm. Jo
As they say, dirt is what’s under your fingernails, and soil is what’s in the garden! 🙂 Hope you had a fun road trip!
And grime is in the house? Everything has to GO, except the soil. Jo
