Planning a Short Road Trip

When we returned from a trip to Florida 2 years ago we drove through Richmond, Virginia, and stopped at the Decorating Outlet which had been recommended by the Petersiks of the now defunct blog, Young House Love.

At that time I found 4 large lampshades at a great price.

The Decorating Outlet shades were perfect for my mother's 1960s lamps.

These lampshades are now in our living room.

I'm hoping to find coordinating fixtures for our master bathroom and hallway.

We’re in the need of a number of lighting fixtures which is a specialty of the Decorating Outlet and I’d like to take another look now that we’re further into our renovation.

The additions to The Glade viewed from the back yard were a huge prospect both time and money-wise.

Two years ago we were just starting and buying things that might have a place in the new spaces was scary since I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t run out of money before the project was finished.

I'd like to get something to replace this $10 fixture in the conservatory bathroom that we installed so we could pass our final inspection. It's hideous.

Fast forward 2 years and I have a better idea of our needs and how to budget for lighting.

The house has its siding and, although needs it to be painted, the interior details remain unfinished.

Since a 2.5 hour drive just to hit a discount store would be frivolous I plan to follow some of the other suggestions that John made in his post about where to shop, eat, and sightsee.

Where did you go on your last road trip?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
