Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights.
We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house.
Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

I’m not even going to try and pretend that I can do any kind of DIY – our curtains fell down about three months ago and neither of us know how to put them back up HA – but I absolutely love that floor! Excellent choice!
I really like that basket weave! I am very particular about basket weaves too. 😉 As for the sealing of the marble… my gut tells me you should seal it (with your tile guy’s blessing). xo
Definitely seal it, I’ve had to deal with stained unsealed marble before, nothing will remove stains from it with the possible exception of muriatic acid (not a pleasant prospect) better safe than sorry

Thanks, Lauren. Hanging curtains so they’re straight and stay up is more difficult than one would think. Jo
I’m glad you agree, ha!
What do your tile setters think about sealing the marble. Did they have an opinion about it? Beautiful drain cover – it plays well with the marble.
They said not necessary. But my experience with marble is that it stains and soaks up liquid ( like water). Jo
I would seal it just for piece of mind. The drain cover is like a piece of jewelry!
We’ll seal it. The drain covers are standard with the Schluter system. Jo
I have no experience with marble, but I have to say you guys did a fantastic tiling job! It looks beautiful.
Thanks, we called in the pros for this one. We might try a backsplash on our own. Jo
I didn’t know I could love that drain any more, but I most certainly do.
What a nice thing to say. Kerdi drain by Schluter. It comes with the whole mechanism. Jo

I’m sealing it necessary or not. Jo

Thanks, TB. That’s the comment I was hoping someone would say. Jo
It will certainly stain if you don’t seal it. If that will bother you than you know the answer.
The kind of stains that happen in the bathroom when a man uses it would certainly bug me on my marble tile. Jo
