Renovating an old house by a musical couple who want to live there the rest of their lives.
It Doesn’t Look Like Much
This past weekend we tried to finish a few projects and totally failed in that department.
For instance I was hoping to get the master bath greenboarded and Hardiebackered. (Yes, I’m coining new verbs.)
The green board is finished but we have 3 more pieces of Hardie backer to install before we can say “finished”.
Then I was planning to start mudding the master closet.
We cleaned the closet removing all the scraps and mess that had accumulated.
Once the closet was neat I thought we should try instead to move the chests of drawers from the master bedroom into the closet.
The object is to paint the master bedroom which is already mudded and ready to be painted.
Unfortunately we just didn’t get that far enough to start painting.
Although things are looking better they’re not much improved. Maybe I can do a small task everyday this week and be ready to paint the master bedroom. After all, I bought the paint months ago.
Do you change your mind in mid-stream? Does it work for you?
Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights.
We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house.
Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
