Planning a Dedication

Ever since Sug erected the cross in the garden at The Glade we’ve been planning a dedication of the area which we call “The Chapel.”

The cross is arched by a dogwood tree when viewed from the Cottage deck.

The Dedication of the Chapel at The Glade is planned for the end of September or the beginning of October.  We’re talking about a late afternoon Saturday get-together.

I’m planning to provide some purple iris for transplanting.

We’ll plan a short service at the end of which plants and fall bulbs will be provided for all to place in memory or honor of loved ones around the base of the cross.  I’ll have plant markers ready to designate the honoree.

Tables and chairs set up in the back yard might work on a warm autumn day.

After the dedication we’ll have dinner together.

My  tentative menu is:

  • Salad:  baby greens, grapes, roasted beets, goat cheese, toasted walnuts, raspberry vinaigrette
  • Brisket
  • Good rolls
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Baked apple dessert with vanilla ice cream

Do you have a favorite remembrance?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
