Clearing Up

Yesterday we really worked on the master closet.

The closet is almost assembled.

We completed all the towers and propped them up on the bases.

While we’re working on the closet we’re storing the unfinished parts and tools in the closet. (My side.)

All the lumber is officially out of the living room.  Most of it is in the closet either assembled or waiting to be assembled.

Charlie’s side.

From this post we finished the first two tasks.

My shoe tower will hold these clear boxes.

Task 3 is to build a shoe tower.

The narrow space above the cabinet towers will also have a custom box to the ceiling.

Task 4 will be to fill the space above the towers with horizontal storage.

I used the spacing as on the kitchen cabinets: 4″ up from the bottom of the door in the middle of the stile.

I attached faceted knobs to the pre-fab cabinets left over from the kitchen renovation.

When the doors will be stained grey the screws from the doors pills will e camouflaged.

I also put knobs on the back of the closet doors as a means to open the doors from the inside. I used hanger bolts with a machine screw on one side and a wood screw on the other to secure the knobs to the closet door.

How gorgeous is the Cottage in April?

Today we’re celebrating Easter and wishing you a bright day.

What are you DIYing this spring?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. You are getting so close. What a joy it will be to get your clothes installed. Perhaps even culling them will be fun with a new closet for the keepers.
