New Conservatory Furniture

I’ve had the loveseats in the conservatory since 1981.  Originally they were upholstered in cream colored wool.

In 1991 I made matching flowered slipcovers and they’ve been in those covers ever since.

When I moved into The Glade in 1997 the loveseats were in the living room.

When the conservatory was built in 2014 I moved both loveseats into the conservatory.

I really would like to change the style of the conservatory to a more outdoor style room.

I thought I would like a daybed but realized it would probably be a little too large for the space. I especially admired the rattan daybed at Melissa’s of The Inspired Room.

I'm hoping this bench is a perfect fit in the conservatory.

I was excited when a new Grandin Road catalog came to the house with an almost identical rattan bench, except that it is smaller than a daybed.  It is more the size of my loveseats.

The price is less than half of the full-sized model.

I ordered one.

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. You have achieved the impossible! That never, ever happens! The bench will look great in your conservatory … nice and light and airy. I know it’s supposedly out of style, but I’ve always loved the old chunky rattan (or were they bamboo?) pieces from the 1940-50s, with the tropical botanical prints.
