Tile Quote for 3 Backsplashes

When our tile setter came to quote the work to install 3 tile backsplashes we actually presented him with 4 projects.

The kitchen backsplash tile -- Sealed Royal Grey Honed Limestone.

I’ll start with the extra project first.   We were thinking of using the leftover tile from the kitchen backsplash to also tile the front of the fireplace.

The dark area inside the mantelpiece is brick painted Benjamin Moore's "Swallow".

Now it is painted brick.  We thought this Royal Grey limestone might look good in a herringbone pattern.

Item #3: Fireplace surround $960.

However when the proposal for the small fireplace surround came in it was $960!  Way too much.  We’ll just keep the painted brick.

The conservatory sink will get a backsplash that matches the shower tile.

The conservatory bathroom is the first item: First floor bath — $517.

The space above the vanity could use a backsplash.

The second item: Second floor bath (master bathroom) — $677.

A tile backsplash in the Cottage would be nice.

Finally, the fourth item: Kitchen backsplash in the Cottage — $832.

We're hoping there's enough frosted glass tile in our stash to complete this project.

We were hoping to use subway tile set in a herringbone pattern thus the extra charge.

Frankly we were surprised at these prices as they were more than expected.

Do you negotiate proposed prices?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
