Matching the Master Vanity Marble

I looked for the tile for the master vanity backsplash here.

The vanity top is white marble with grey veining.

I finally pulled the trigger and bought 6 square feet of tile plus bullnoses to go with the vigorously veined vanity top.

The 2" by 4" tiles are held together by net.

The Hampton Carrera Polished Amalfi 2″ by 4″ subway tiles actually come netted together in square-foot sheets.

There were only 7 total in stock so I took them all.  The seventh sheet was missing a tile so I asked for a discount.

The tile is slightly yellower than the vanity top.

The salesman gave me a 10% discount on the entire order and threw in the damaged sheet for free because it was not on his computer.  I love a bargain.

Now I have to decide whether to use the marble or the white from the shower wall.

I’ve called the tile setters who tiled our bathrooms at the end of 2015 to schedule installation for 3 backsplashes and then the tiling should be finished.

Are you patient? Or do you want it NOW?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I’m usually pretty patient, mostly because I have trouble making a decision. But I can also get into a state where I just have to do it NOW, which gets things done but not always in a good way. I’m so glad I don’t have to pick out tile. That looks like a really hard decision but I know whichever way you go it will look good.

  2. I’m a NOW person, which is why it’s hard for me to stay motivated on a long project like my living/dining room paint. The marble tile is beautiful and won’t compete with the vanity top. Then again, for continuity, using the subway tile would look good. Will you stop the backsplash at the edge of the vanity?
