Project Completions from 2016

I always have lists of projects both written and stored in my brain. (101 in 1001, Clean Sweep, Master List.)

The Cottage interior last June.

Every so often we actually finish something. Sometimes it’s something we didn’t even hope to accomplish.

The brown sewing machine in the foreground belongs to me and will eventually come back in my house.
The Cottage sees regular improvements now.

The biggest change last year was The Cottage.  It went from a storage bin to permanent living quarters. We had hoped to sort it out but never expected to make such progress.

Early in the year we had shower glass installed in both the master bathroom and the conservatory bathroom.

Both showers are curbless.

We upgraded our mailbox.

We also switched out our rural mailbox with a totally upgraded version that was a gift from my sister.

All the floors are installed.

While we were on a trip to the Grand Canyon, our son oversaw the installation of red oak floors in the last two unfloored sections of the house: the master suite hallway and the conservatory.

Charlie and I actually worked together to finish the rustic vanity in the conservatory bathroom.

We also made shelves in the conservatory bathroom.

We even built rustic shelves to cover an access alcove behind the shower. We were on a roll.

The conservatory bathroom door was painted "Secret" by Benjamin Moore.

My last project of the year was to paint the interior doors grey. (Door 1, Door 2, Doors 3 and 4.) I painted them solo and am very happy with the change.

What’s your number one project planned for 2017?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. Thanks for the compliment. We’ve done 2 new bathrooms in the last few years. The only things remaining are tile backsplashes which should happen before spring. Jo

  1. Gosh, you got some major things crossed off your list last year. I knew that and have said that before but it was nice to see them together in one post. The shelving next to the shower in the conservatory really turned out well. You might want to incorporate some sit and put your feet up time into your lists. I seem to be doing more of that than I’d like but I’m going with the flow, I guess. Sometimes it’s stronger than at other times.

    1. My friend, Charlie, and I have a secret project we’re hoping to start this coming weekend. I’m hoping to share it in the next few months. Jo
