Another Painted Door

There are 3 interior doors on the ground floor of The Glade.

The powder room door is also going grey.
The powder room door is also going grey sometime soon.

Eventually I would like them all to be the same color.

The conservatory bathroom door is 36-inches wide.

I started with the largest one, the 3-foot wide conservatory bathroom door.

The door is painted.

It is now painted “Secret” front .  .  .

and back.

The bathroom is behind the grey door.

The closet doors will be a similar color but instead of painting I’m planning to stain them along with the other wood closet doors. That’s an outside job I’m saving for spring.

I've had this cute frog on a leaf for decades and I'll finally have a door for him to knock on.

Now I have a place for a special door knocker.

What color are your doors? Do they need cleaning or painting?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. It’s really coming along!

As for my house, I’ve been slacking off for most of the fall but gave the house a deep clean 2 weeks ago (so it could get by with a light cleaning before my Christmas party) and holy crap the dust that accumulated on my doors.

I’ve also wondered if I should try to strip and stain the vestibule door for consistency. (The basement stairway door will definitely be white to blend in with the paneling and I don’t think I’ll ever care about the back bedroom closet doors being white and next to a stained door.)

    1. Thanks, Chad. Who ever thinks about doors?! A deep cleaning — that sounds awesome. I might have to hire somebody but I have a few projects before that happens. Jo

  2. Love the frog!! I have three kitchen doors and two bathroom doors that need to be painted white (on one side only), which I’ve been putting off forever. I wanted to do them outside … but maybe I should just go for it where they hang. And I’m not done with the French doors and screens, either. Sigh …
