Paint, Paint, and More Paint

Last night I went to our local Ace hardware’s Ladies’ Night which included food, giveaways, and fun. Not as much fun as last year however because of a new organizer who was not as organized, in my opinion.

I had a long list of paint to purchase. And the brands I wanted to get were on sale for 40% off.  A real bargain.

First I wanted to buy paint to brighten up a friend’s living room: 2 gallons of primer, a gallon of “Simply White” for the ceiling, and 2 gallons of “White Dove” for the walls.

I took my 10-year-old can of paint to match the color.

And I needed to get a gallon of exterior paint for the house shutters which are probably not getting painted until spring.  The paint department matched my old shutter paint.

But when I checked out I was given a 20% discount.  Normally that would have been great but I was promised 40% which I got when I pointed it out to the young cashier.

Do you check you register tape?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. That was a great deal on paint – good for you for catching the error. Our Ace, which just opened a year or two ago, is closing – not enough business, I guess. It was great to have a hardware store not too far away but after the first flush of easy access I was caught up on what I needed to buy.

    1. I like this store because it will mix Benjamin Moore colors in other brands of paint. And they carry things other places don’t. Ours has been in business — the same family — since 1845. Jo
