Christmas Styles: Glade Cottage vs. The Glade

When I opened Frontgate catalog I was met with some beautiful Christmas ornaments.

The aquas and berries have come together in the Cottage.

The Cottage has been recently (over the past 6 months) be updated and upgraded.  The new color scheme is aqua, cranberry, ochre.

The flowers of the stoneware echo the colors in the room.

The ochre (or gold) is thanks to some vintage dishes my tenant found packed away which were inherited from her grandmother.

Cranberry, aqua, and gold -- stunningly opulent.

Imagine my delight to see the Parisian Christmas 60-piece Christmas ornament collection in the catalog.  Shades of aqua, cranberry, and gold.  Oh la la!

The living room is predominantly blue and white.

But over at the house I use red in the sparest of ways. Only a leather frame here and there.

Blue is repeated in every room of the house.

My colors are true blue, ochre, and green.

Love these colors -- I live with them all year round.

If I were buying a whole set of ornaments mine would be the French Blue and Linen 60-piece ornament collection.

This is last year's holiday décor. Maybe something more exciting this year.
This is last year’s holiday décor which looks surprisingly similar to my inspiration.

Now, of course, neither one of us is going to buy an ornament collection but we can certainly use these displays as inspiration for our own individual styles.

I was not perked or paid to review this material.

What’s your holiday style this year?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. My holiday style is to at least get the tree up and decorated! Oh my gosh, time is flying by. Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks!

  2. Oh darn, I thought you both had bought the collections–they’re lovely! But if you’re like me, you already have plenty. I have been collecting glass ornaments my whole adult life, and I have so many that I can’t use them all. Some were our parents’ and I cherish them.
