The Autumn Leaves

We have a wealth of colored leaves at The Glade.

Red dogwood leaves, yellow tulip poplar, yellow, orange and red, maples.

It won’t be long before a big wind comes and throws them in waves down onto the grass in the yard.

We can see these colored trees from almost every room in the house.

The kitchen with its picture window was set up to view the trees.

The conservatory has an especially good view.

We still have not finished trimming the master bathroom window, the stickers are still on the window pane.

Even the master bathroom gets a stunning display.

How do your leaves get picked up?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Beautiful!! We have a tree right outside the window at work that has been bright yellow and it looks so pretty when there’s a blue sky and the sun hits it just right.

  2. My property is also filled with beautiful autumn color. I count my blessings whenever I’m outside. My windows have limited views but the picture window in the living room always frames a lovely view. I mulch the leaves on the lawn with the mower and rake up the ones on the patio and in the parking area after they’ve sat there for months.

  3. Your property is spectacular this time of year! Have you ever thought about taking a photo for each season for your header? We don’t pick up our leaves. They provide great mulch and nutrients for lawn and garden as they decay. I should get them off the sidewalk, though, before they get slippery.

  4. beautiful, i especially like the view from the conservatory. our leaves are gone/down for the past month. i keep staring at them, but haven’t done anything with them yet. maybe this weekend i will bag them up.
