Another Craigslist Giveaway

Back in July Charlie helped clean up the debris behind the Cottage.

All sorts of metal had been stashed behind the Cottage.

In addition to weeds there was a lot of scrap metal items.  I think Charlie had been storing them there.

The scrap metal has been piled in the yard near the wood shed. The scrap wood was cleared up months ago but the metal has been cluttering up the yard.

When he pulled the metal out he piled everything in a yard cart.

A mess of mixed metal.

There it stayed until this weekend when I told him he needed to get rid of the pile or I would start throwing it away piece by piece until it was gone.

Who would want this stuff?

Instead I posted it on Craigslist for free and within 2 hours it was gone. A retired man and his wife came by to pick it up.

The yard cart is empty and ready for service.

They are on a fixed income and use metal recycling to supplement their finances. And we were glad to watch the metal clutter drive away.

Do you have any side hustles that bring in supplemental income?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. wow, how wonderful! i’ve never heard of that as a way to earn money… i mean, i know there’s money in metal recycling, but i didn’t realize people do it themselves. good for them and you! i was a dogwalker/housesitter for some very posh families (lucked out on that one) for 12 years before meeting hubby. that was quite lucrative! but after 12 years of living in other people’s houses for what amounted to about 2 weeks out of every 4, it’s been nice to have it in my past as fond memories of all the awesome dogs i cared for.
