Working Last Weekend’s Plan Again

Half my list from last Saturday was left undone.

The cabinets should hang something like this. The longer cabinet might be a little longer than pictured.
We went from virtual cabinets to real cabinets in the Cottage kitchen this week.
The mini-kitchen in the Cottage is coming together.

I could be truly disappointed or get busy again this weekend.

  1. Put shoe molding in conservatory.  The angle at the inside corners is 45 degrees.  The end-of-run angle is 22.5 degrees beveled in.
I cut shoe molding to go around the entire conservatory.

I am borrowing a pneumatic nailer and pancake compressor to secure the shoe molding to the wall. Some day we might get around to actually painting these miles of trim.

  2. Determine casing and trim needs and place an order at the local lumber yard. I’d prefer not to have a big surplus left over and don’t want to have more than one delivery so I’m trying to make the best estimate I can which might take a while.
Before finalizing my list I need to sift through this pile in the living room.

So far I need 72 linear feet of ranch casing.  Still need an estimate for 1 by 4, ogee, and shoe.

  3. List new items on Craigslist.
This week I listed the doors and the remaining oak flooring.

I’ve already had some interest in the wooden door. I also listed the red oak flooring left over from our flooring project. I wanted to get my drafting table cleaned up and listed.

  4. Measure bookshelf wall to assess cornice and trim needs.
Can't wait until these shelves are finished.

Before I finish the shelves I think I should cut and install the baseboard around the bedroom.

  5. Move oak chest of drawers to conservatory and hook up television. I saved this until after I nail down the shoe molding in the conservatory so I don’t have to climb behind it.
Our oak chest is blocking the front door.

I’ll have to take out the drawers but the chest will be moved today. and the television placed back in it’s spot.

  6.  Surform the upstairs doors.
The Surform can be used to plane the bottom of the doors.

I want to get the bedroom door back on its hinges.

  7. Paint bedroom doors.
The master bathroom door has a small hitch when opening it that needs to be adjusted. Then it needs some paint.

I prefer to paint doors horizontally on sawhorses rather than while hanging especially over my new floor.

  8. Wash old jeans for a special project.
The jeans are washed and ready to be trimmed for our special shoe making project.

I’ve already distributed close to twenty invitations.  The rest will go out this weekend.

My choir begins Christmas rehearsals this week.  Are you thinking about Christmas yet?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. No, I’ve barely begun thinking about Thanksgiving. Wait, I take that back – I picked up a few little Christmas presents last week. Now if I can just keep track of them so I can wrap them and find them at the right time I’ll be set.

    1. Went to a sandwich café tonight with a turkey sandwich called “White Christmas”. Not to mention that Home depot has Christmas decorations at the entrance. Jo
