Having a Special Party

In one month from today Charlie, my friend from the Cottage, and I will be hosting a party.

The shoes are appropriate for boys or girls. We'll be making size "Toddler 10" shoes.

Unlike anything I’ve ever done before we will have a purpose to our get-together other than social interaction. We’re planning a “Sole Hope” party.

I’ll be using my old pile of saved jeans to cut out tops for shoes that will then be assembled and distributed in Uganda.

The object of "Sole Hope" is to protect these feet from disease and infestation.

Our goal is to cut out 25 pairs of denim shoes and donate them and other supplies to “Sole Hope“, which removes parasitic jiggers from children’s feet and provide shoes and paid work for adults in Uganda.

The invitation has information front, back, and inside to give encouragement to attendance.

I have designed an explanatory invitation which I am giving to friends who will come on a Saturday afternoon to turn The Glade into a shoe-cutting factory.

Do you have any “soleful” snack inspirations?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I might have some old jeans that would work for this. Completely gone in the crotch but fine everywhere else.

And if you wanted to make soul food, some neighbors baked mac and cheese into little solid pieces you could pick up for last years beer tour. (Their house will follow mine again this year.)
