Rugs for The Cottage

The Cottage is being furnished to make it livable.

The neutral couch could use a rug with pizzazz.

Before too much furniture is moved in my friend decided to get some area rugs.

The blue rug is more of a dark denim color.

Happily for me she asked me along on a shopping trip.  We checked out the rugs at Home Depot, Lowes, and Home Goods.

Lowes provided a denim-colored, 5′ by 8′ rug for the entry.

Our favorite rug at Home Goods was not what we had in mind.

But the living room area needs an 8′ by 10′ area rug. After finding only pale rugs my friend told me to find a rug for her.  Yea!

I love this overdyed red rug.

I thought the rug should be red. I showed her two choices.

I like how this red rug also picks up the aqua wall color.

She picked the one above.

Do you make bold color choices? Or do you prefer monochromatic neutrals?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
