If I Were Decorating the Cottage

Although my friend is moving into the Cottage I’m giving her my ideas according to her taste.

"Siamese Eyes" is the pervasive wall color in the Cottage.

The Cottage interior is painted mostly “Siamese Eyes” by Martha Stewart.

My friend’s favorite color is red so I found a beautiful paisley at Pottery Barn that encompasses both colors.

Her choice for a sofa is Ikea’s Ektorp in Nordvalla Dark Beige (which I also purchased here for a garage apartment).

I stopped at my favorite Model Home Décor Center and found a couple of pillows that would also tie together the cranberry red and turquoise.

And for good measure I took photos of a greige and turquoise chair which I’m not sure there’s room for but would go great.

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I’m so glad the cottage will be inhabited soon. It’s such a darling little place.

I had a great trip to our cousins reunion with my two sisters in Rapid City, SD. Much fun with a bus tour to Mt. Rushmore and other stops last Saturday. Then the three of us drove to NE Montana and visited our elderly aunt who couldn’t make it to the reunion. We got to see the old homestead in the middle of a wheat field 36 miles from town and marveled at the thought of our grandparents raising 8 children out there in the middle of nowhere. It was the best trip and now we are all happy to be home. Here in NE Alabama we are back to praying for rain. Too dry.
