Painting in The Cottage

My future tenant has been working on getting the ceiling and walls in shape in The Cottage since most of the floor is still covered with building materials.

The back wall of the Cottage has been freshly painted white like the ceiling.

The back wall where the washer and dryer will be placed is white for maximum light reflection.

The aqua blue wall is "Siamese Eyes".

The other walls have been painted and touched up with the original “Siamese Eyes” by Martha Stewart.

"Templeton Grey" by Benjamin Moore on the floating wall behind the bed.

The floating wall was fixed and painted here.

Finally, enough of the painting was finished so we could skid the floating wall into approximate position.

The floor will buff up nicely.

That allowed for mopping and waxing the front part of the Cottage floor.

Installation has begun.

Tomorrow some mini-kitchen renovation.

Are you relishing the last days of summer?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I’m relishing the approaching fall – summer is much too hot. Still lots to do and need to move plants but it’s too hot and dry to do that successfully. So glad to see how the cottage is coming along.
