A New Job Perk

I’ve had the same great job for twenty-five years.

The front entrance to the 100+-year-old house where I work. The second floor terrace gave me the idea for a usable terrace outside our master suite.

I work in a mansion as an executive assistant to a lovely family.

Recently they let go the couple that cooks and cleans and hired a new couple.  The new cook has been serving us 3-course lunches.

The newest perk, however, is that he juices in the morning.

Yesterday upon my arrival at work I was greeted with a glass of juice made from apricots, peaches, grapes, and fennel. FENNEL!

I love my job.

Do you have a perk that makes your job special?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. That’s lovely. My best perk is that I’m retired and can do things on my own schedule – theoretically that is.

that sounds way too good to be true! if i was rich the first thing i’d do is hire a personal chef/cleaning couple and have them make me 3 course meals and lots of juices!!!
