I walked into our local Trader Joe’s early yesterday morning and found some wonderful things.

9 roses are just under $4.

The flower display is just inside the door.  I picked up a bouquet of nine roses.

These apricot roses seemed very cheery.

There were lots of colors but I picked the ones that made me happy.

Fair warning -- this mango is addicting.

My second stop was the dried-fruits-and-nuts section. I needed to restock my supply of “Soft and Juicy Mango.”  I keep them in the glove box of the car for when I need a snack.  I bought some for my friend, too.

I always take a spin through the fresh fruits and veg.  I usually get some berries but yesterday they had figs.

I never ate figs as a child -- I was missing out.

Fresh black figs. Ripe and sweet. So good.

I like all kinds of cheese but I especially like having parmesan in the fridge.

I also like Trader Joe’s parmesan cheese.  Charlie grates it and I use it on just about everything — potatoes, toast, pasta, eggs, etc.

This chocolate breaks up into a bunch of pieces and I have one after dinner.

And last I picked up a more-than-a-pound bar of super dark chocolate.

I was not paid or perked to write this review.  I just had a really good time shopping.

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. My daughter loves those mangoes. That’s always her pick. I go there for zucchini. I know you can get it anywhere but for some reason, TJ’s cooks up really nicely. They also have some really good sea salt brownies but they have to be fresh.

    1. Mr. G Hog missed out on the figs. Charlie has been feeding him cantaloupe and carrots. Something sprang the trap but did not get caught. Mr. Hog mocks us by eating grass right near the trap in a disinterested way. Jo

      1. Typical! The ones that live in our yard/neighbor’s yard LOVE peanuts. Maybe you can put some peanuts in the trap. We sprinkle unsalted, shelled peanuts out back and we hear him crunching and munching for quite a while.
