Moving Some Art

A few years ago I framed a nautical chart.

The chart has been hanging on the soon-to-be cabineted wall in the Cottage.

It’s been hanging in the Cottage but now it has to move.

The was above the conservatory toilet is empty.

I don’t have many empty walls in the house.

Looking from the closet side, the wall in the bathroom is loaded with pipes and vents.

The wall above the toilet in the conservatory bathroom was empty but has some hidden pipes and vents that I wouldn’t want to puncture with a nail.

The chart fits well above the toilet but the colors are not quite right.

After measuring the approximate positions of the obstacles I nailed up a picture hook.

The bathroom mirror reflects the chart and the kitchen across the house.

The edge of the shower wall needs to be trimmed and the opening needs will be filled with shelves.

This room still needs some finishing details but the chart fills a large space on the wall.

What’s hanging around your house?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I love charts, too. Where’s the location of this one? I don’t recognize it. Have you tried those stick-on hooks that don’t mar the wall? I haven’t.

    1. The chart is Pine Island Florida and it’s hanging in the conservatory bathroom over the toilet. I have tried those for hanging the Swiffer on for example. They seem to work OK. Not sure I would trust them for a heavy piece with glass. Jo
