More Stuff

It seems like I worked on rearranging stuff all morning yesterday.

Everything with a label needs a new home.

Missing: Table leaves, card table

In reality I took about 5 items out of the Cottage.

The refrigerator is against the back wall mainly because that's where the electrical outlet is.

In answer to a question about how the refrigerator in there would be oriented, I think it will be placed as in the photo above.

I have about 9 sunflower plants and this is the one closest to blossoming.

I also noticed that I might actually see a sunflower blossom sometime this summer.

We even eat the funky shaped cucumbers.

On the other hand Charlie has had a bumper crop of cucumbers.  He passes them out to friends who are eager to get them. They’re sweet and tender this year and really smell cucumber-y.

This is only half the load.

Speaking of Charlie and clutter, he brought home two cars full of somebody’s old windows. Knock, knock, I’m trying to get rid of stuff.  Maybe he’ll build a small greenhouse. Otherwise these gotta go.

In the “gotta go” department our son took the small white bookshelf that’s been hanging out on the side porch.  As he picked it up a fat mouse ran out from under it.  Eeeek!!

If you could give away one thing (that belongs to someone else) what would it be?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I don’t remember – will there be more room for cabinets under the “kitchen” countertop? Is the drafting lamp a floor version? That might make kind of a cool bedside or chair side reading lamp.

    1. There might be room for a cabinet under the sink. and I think wall cabinets are planned The drafting lamp is a floor version that has both an incandescent bulb and a round fluorescent tube. The housing is counterweighted to stay where it’s put. Jo

  2. I laughed about the windows, too. We do have a nice greenhouse that’s made of recycled window frames, so don’t toss them! With as much gardening as you both do, this would be a good project (someday).
