We Came, We Ate, We Watched

Friday night we had our choir over to watch the documentary Young @ Heart.

I planned a simple menu that could easily be put together in an hour after I came home from work.

Cover the sandwiches with a damp dish towel to keep the sandwiches moist.

Instead of making individual sandwiches I bought baguettes and made four large sandwiches.

In additional to a traditional ham and Swiss with lettuce and tomato, I combined turkey and avocado.

Grating the red bell pepper makes the texture more pleasant in the sandwich than chopping it.

I added grated red bell pepper to the turkey and avocado. Three grocery stores were out of sprouts or those would have been on the sandwich, too.

Folks could mix and match their sandwich choices.

Then we cut the sandwiches into smaller sections and provided condiments to be applied by the eater.

I also supplied movie candy and popcorn.

One friend brought a mixture of pretzels, popcorn, Chex cereal, slivered almonds, craisins, and M&Ms covered with white chocolate individually packaged. Totally addictive.

What’s the last movie you saw?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. wow! i am so bad at entertaining. another thing you make look so easy. i love the movie snacks! and the sandwich idea is genius. so much easier to make 4 big ones to cut up. and i like your sandwich variety. very cool! how was the movie? or will that be in a future post?

    1. The movie was a big hit. It made us both laugh and cry. Each of us could find ourselves in the various characters. I lent it out for some of us to watch again. (I’ve seen it 3 times.)
