Big Tasks on the 101 in 1001

In order to finish my challenge of executing 101 tasks in 1001 days, I decided to focus on a few tasks at a time.

#15 Host a Book Club.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

We started the discussions last night. Our group of 10 is wonderfully diverse: ages range from 12 to about 85.  We have a good mixture of races, religions, and backgrounds. Three of us had been school teachers. The ladies (alas no men were interested), who are Southerners, Northerners, Mid-westerners, and Westerners, each bring a unique viewpoint to our conversation.

#43 Treat a friend to lunch.

Went to one of my favorite restaurants before a Saturday evening church service for a late lunch.  Good food; good fun.

#50 Read the Bible in a year.

I'll be reading the books in chronological order.

Started on May 1st, 2016, using the “chronological” plan from this website.

#83 Visit a botanical garden.

Spring should be a grand time to visit a botanical garden.  The most convenient one for me to visit is the Rawlings Conservatory & Botanic Gardens in Druid Hill Park in Baltimore.  Open Wednesday through Sunday, 10-4. Waiting for a non-rainy Saturday.

Now, to keep going.

#46 Dermatologist for major renovation.

I'm thinking a laser treatment is in order.

I did some basic research then called my dermatologist and made an appointment for next week.

#77 Landscape front yard.

The front of the house is sorely in need of curb appeal.

First task is to lay out a plan on the ground of walkways and plantings.

#84 Get rid of rubble pile and grade driveway.

We had an enormous rubble pile in the driveway.

The rubble behind the 5 gallon bucket is all that's left of approximately 60 tons.

We are so close to having the rubble pile totally gone. I’ll give it 30 days until it disappears.

#85 Have dinner by candlelight.

I have plenty of candles.

Perhaps dinner for two on the master suite deck just after dusk would fill the requirement.

I must plan something special for just the two of us.

Have you made a romantic plan for the month of June? Or are you caught up in rubble?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Another ambitious list!
It’s our 7th anniversary this Saturday, and we’re celebrating with dinner at a Thai restaurant we’ve always intended to try, followed by our last night at the symphony. (We reluctantly gave up our season tickets because they got too expensive.)

      1. Eric is a classically trained bassist, but broke his fingers after high school and that pretty much ended it for him. I have no musical training so I just sit and listen. We have classical tickets but I would enjoy the pops more. Maybe when we win the lotto!
