Suppose We Have Company

If we had overnight guests, even with 2 unused bedrooms and a guest cottage, we’d be hard-pressed to put them up.

once upon a time the Treetops Room with windows on 3 walls was a calm and welcoming space.

My immediate goal is to get the Treetops bedroom back it shape. On 3 walls this bedroom has windows that look into the tops of the tree.

The only foreign items on the bed are photos destined for the wall in the hall.

The room has a double bed and so could accommodate 1 or 2 people.

The bed is cluttered with mostly sheets and towels.

It also has a pile of junk everywhere: tools, papers, fabric, clothing, towels, etc.

So great to have the bed cleared.

I want it ready for action so first I organized the extra towels and sheets by giving some away and stashing the rest in our linen closet in the master bedroom.

We've been keeping these tools on the second floor just in case we needed them again.

Charlie told me he will consolidate and clean up the tools because he doesn’t like where I might store them. I say “OK”.  Clean the tools up. They really don’t need to be in here anymore.

This clutters ultimately goes in the attic.

I put the paper — tax returns, files, bank statements, etc. — back up in the attic.

Until our closet is complete my clothes are relegated to the bed in the pink bedroom.

I took all the clothing on the bed and floor and put it in the little pink bedroom until our master closet is built.

I love how light-filled this bedroom is.

I’m only partly finished but the end is in sight.

Spring cleaning bug got you?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I worked hard in my kitchen and made good headway. What’s the timeline on your closet? Seems like it would be frustrating to be so close and yet so far from being done. Your treetops room sounds delightful.

    1. We’re held up by the flooring. Once that’s in place the closet is next. And we’re fairly close to getting the flooring organized. Jo
