Shopping My Own House

I’ve been trying to organize a few things around The Glade.

Heavy folding chairs from the attic which are more useful on the first floor.

While I was up in the attic I found 2 solid folding chairs that will be perfect for extra seating in the living room.

We have a 3-seater sofa and 2 matching bergère chairs -- seating for 5.

We have permanent seating in the living room for 4 or 5 people. When more than that show up we either flow into other rooms or provide additional seating with occasional chairs and stools.

We'll pull the chairs closer to the coffee table after I have a chance to vacuum the rug.

Game Night purports to be 10 people. Ten people all in the living room where we tend to play on the coffee table.

The coffee table is ready for game play.

I’ve cleared the coffee table of its décor items and distributed them around the house.

A fishy little vignette almost created itself.

And I started working on emptying this big tub of kitchen utensils.

Charlie plans to use the skewers out in the garden since mice might have rambled through them.

Do you say coffee table or cocktail table?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Nice! I say coffee table, but I don’t have one because I know it would be a magnet for kids to leave stuff 🙂 Jen @ Healthfulsaver

    1. I must say we’ve never actually had cocktails at the table only coffee and tea unless I count the Glade Fizz which is non-alcoholic. Jo

  2. Ours is a coffee table … but we never put coffee or cocktails, for that matter, on it. I have several plastic tubs of kitchen junk that I never sorted after we finished (ha!) the kitchen. I really should do that … 🙂
