Sweet ’16: April

I have a grand plan. At which I am a grand failure.

The shutters leaning against the conservatory belong on the front of the house.

That being said, I’m plodding on with a new plan for a new month.

I want to paint the air vent on the exterior of the house the same color as the shingles.

In addition to the unfinished items from the first quarter of 2016, we’ll be trying to complete the following:

  1.  Host game night.

I have a cabinet full of party games.

  2.  Finish painting exterior trim and details left over from last fall.

Cutting in around the round window is the only part remaining on the area above the porch.

That’s it!

On the back of the house the siding is finished but the oil tank will also need a coat of house color.

I hope to have a good report at the end of April.

When the going gets tough do you find it tough to get going?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Keep on keeping on!
Sometimes when things don’t seem to be going well I take a step back and breathe and then get back to it! Keep up the good work!
A game night sounds like the perfect break 🙂

  2. I call it the joy of home ownership…always something to do! Add remodeling and … well, you know! Glad you have reached the place where you can have your parties !
