101 in 1001 — The Third Go-round 2016

On August 12th of 2014 I began my new list of 101 tasks that I would like to complete in 1001 days for the third time. (First list ended 11/13/2011, second list 8/11/2014) until May 9, 2017.  Christmas Day 2015 was the halfway point of the list time wise.  Completed items are markedComplete! with the date of completion.

I set some mini goals before Christmas to finish before the end of 2015:

#7   Have a party. I know I will be getting a whole ham from work which Charlie and I will not be able to consume on our own.

#22  Say “yes” to everything for a day.  I have tried this a couple of times and found that I just could not finish the day without a negative answer. This shouldn’t be so hard.

#33  Start sorting through my wardrobe which is sprawled out 3 three rooms.  I have a dress I made in college — 40 years ago — do you think I’ll wear it again?

#38  Make a photo album of my mother.

#71  Finish the bedroom bookshelves.  Unfortunately we can’t complete this project without our friend the carpenter whom I now refer to as “The Viking”.

#74 and #75 After months of waiting to tile the new bathrooms, we have a tile contractor who will start soon and hopefully finish before Christmas.

#86  I’m on a weight loss regimen which I hope will accrue me 5 more pounds before the end of the year. That in itself would certainly help my wardrobe situation (#33).

I’m still working on the pre-Christmas mini-goals to which I’ll add a few for Spring, 2016:

#6  Plan a game night. Perfect for an April evening. I have Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit. Is there something new out there we should try?

#9  In the near future I’m hoping to have a dinner party for 8. I’ve planned the guest list and menu, only the date is up in the air.

#16  Find a waterfall.  I’ve found one now we just need to visit it.

#21  We’ve started researching a trip to the Grand Canyon for this fall. A friend in Mancos, Colorado has already given us an invitation to visit. I’m working on the itinerary. What is a must-see while we’re there?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I think your new phone might qualify for the goal to buy an iPod or mp3 player. You can put music on it and play it.

    1. I wasn’t sure about that. Thanks for cluing me in. I would like to have music with me at all times — before it was confined to the car and the house. Jo

  2. I love lists, and this seems like a good idea! What a fun way, too, to keep track of what you’ve done all year. Also, that old recipe card – so beautiful! You should scan those too while you’re doing the photos of your mom.

    1. Great idea. I’ll want to pull together more than just photos of Mother. As to lists, I have lots of those. The 101 in 1001 is more personal than some of the others. This is my 3rd go-round. I’ve never actually finished one but I do make great progress, sometimes inadvertently. Jo

      1. Why not mat and frame some of the special recipe cards after you scan them? You could do them singly or a few together. I framed up an old stained recipe from my grandmother – I love it and it’s very special hanging on my kitchen wall.

      2. I hope I can find the recipe — although I know it by heart — for steamed shrimp that my mother wrote on an old Silber’s Bakery (no longer in business) box while her uncle dictated it to her. Jo
