Sweet ’16: January Update

A new month has begun so it’s time to see what was accomplished on January’s list.

The shower glass in the conservatory bathroom is fully installed.

The 3 three items planned:

  1.  Shower glass.
  2.  Finish vanities.
  3.  Hang bathroom lighting fixtures.

#1  Shower glass was installed in both new bathrooms — the conservatory and the master.

The master bath shower is finished except for the window trim. The vanity still needs to be put in place and plumbed.

We have been enjoying these new spaces.

#2   The vanities have certainly not been finished.

The conservatory vanity will be faced with more old wood and a shelf built on the bottom area.

The sink in the conservatory is hooked up but the finishing on the vanity itself is only partially complete.

This vanity is still sitting in the middle of the bathroom floor -- very inconvenient.

The master double sink vanity has been delivered into the bathroom but not yet installed.

#3  Only the lighting fixture in the conservatory bathroom has been installed. We’re waiting until the sinks are hooked up in the master before the hanging fixtures are wired.

I love how one little window in the conservatory bathroom fills it with light.

So of 6 actual tasks (3 times 2 bathrooms) I would say 3.5 were executed.

In addition I hung 2 toilet paper holders and puttered around the house.  That’s progress. Uh huh. (Do I sound defensive?)

What did you “get done” in January?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. It seems you are dependent on others for getting your January list completed. The glass is in, though – that’s a huge cross off for you. Sometimes the little puttering around things are more progress than they seem at first.

    1. Yes, one entire weekend trapped by snow didn’t help and I’m afraid February is booked up already. Without firm plans, though, nothing gets finished so I’ll continue to make my goal list and be happy with partial results. Jo
