This Came with It

Strapped to the back of the master bathroom vanity when it arrived was a piece of matching trim.

The white piece on the back just under the countertop is a long piece of wood wrapped in foam.

I imagine it is meant to be a backsplash.

The vanity has not yet been installed so the backsplash is on the back burner.

I have no intention of using it for a backsplash because I plan to tile the wall behind the countertop with marble tile.

This is a sturdy but not very wide piece of wood.

Since it matches the wood of the vanity I was thinking I could do something else with it.

A long solid piece of wood already trimmed.

It is divided into 3 sections with trim, the two side sections are the same size and the center is larger.

I'd have to find just the right spot.

Maybe we could make some shelves with this as a decorative piece. Or a hook holder.

Got any other ideas?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. It’s still snowing here with wind gusts that are sending it horizontal. I made a big pot of soup last night and we’re just enjoying being home. Everything has been canceled tomorrow, too. It’s the first time in years we don’t have to go out on Sunday. Jo
