Halfway Through the Month Already

At the end of December I laid out what we hoped to accomplish in January.

Here’s the short but hearty list:

  1.  Shower glass.
  2.  Finish vanities.
  3.  Hang bathroom lighting fixtures.
The light I'm holding in the picture will replace the one hanging on the wall in the conservatory.

The conservatory light has been hung and electrified but the vanity is still unfinished.

The vanity is pretty much sitting in the middle of the bathroom until it gets hooked up because it's waaaay tooooo heavy to move.

The master vanity was delivered and hauled up to the bathroom but still needs to be plumbed.

Shower glass is in the conservatory ready for installation in the bathroom.

The shower glass for both showers is ready for installation.

Styrofoam from the well-packaged vanity is sticking to walls, clothing, floors, and doors -- bits of it may hang on for a long time

So all the projects I wanted to have worked on are in process and now have 15 days to be finished so I can make a new list for February.

I think Charlie plans to reset the 2 new toilets due to a discussion with our plumber.

Things don’t always happen in the order I expect. And as one or two items are finished a whole other set of ideas presents itself. Like resetting the toilets or tiling a backsplash or two.

The conservatory sink NEEDS a tile backsplash.

I’ve saved the touch-up painting and cleaning until the big items are ticked off.  It seems like we’re going to have some finish work soon.

Has the first part of January flown for you as it has for me?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Yes, it seems impossible that we are halfway through January. It’s a big month for you in terms of getting big things checked off your list. Hope it all goes smoothly.

  2. You’re on a role. My schedule last week was horrendous. I was at work from 7:30 to between 5:30-7:30 every day and then had 3-5 hours of work to do every night when I got home. Only four more weeks of swim season. I’ll be so glad to get my afternoons back! Who says teachers don’t earn our summers off?

    1. My son was a two-practice-a-day swimmer for many years. It is very time and energy consuming sport for the athlete, the coach, and the parents . Jo
