Clearing Up the Outside Clutter

Charlie had thrown the undecorated Christmas tree out the front door.

Charlie hacked the tree apart and threw in the clearing near our compost bin.

Yesterday he finally broke it down and put it in the compost pile.

Charlie had promised to clear out his tools under the steps before winter sets in.

I also asked him to clean out the tools and cardboard from under the back steps.

This is the same view from another angle -- cleaned out.

My theory is that piles like this up close to the house encourage rodents to make nests.

I wonder where they'll start.
I wonder where they’ll start.

And Charlie received a phone call yesterday from the shower door installer — they’re coming TODAY!

What one thing needs to be cleaned, and cleaned NOW, at your house?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. We have a relatively large yard so it’s easy for us to have 3 or 4 piles of clutter going at once. I think Charlie tries to hide them from me but eventually I suss them out and give the order to get them gone. Jo
