Now That Christmas is Put Away for Another Year

Charlie took down the Christmas tree, vacuumed the living room where the tree had been, put away the ornaments and moved the furniture back into place.

As fun as Christmas decorating is it can't stay up forever.

While I am a good putter-upper I’m always happy to let someone else do the demolition work.

It's always amazing how many individual pieces there are to Christmas decorating that must ultimately be stored.

During the Christmas/New Year’s holiday we had two get-togethers with friends that were so much fun I’m planning something for February (as I have been for the past 3 years and just never got around to it).

I'm going to pull out some of the old silver that I couldn't get rid of.
I’m going to pull out some of the old silver to give sparkle to the winter months.

I’ve already posted my preliminary tea party outline which I expect will be held mostly in the living room.

Now that the room is stripped of Christmas I'm going to focus on the next celebration -- Valentine's Day.

To that effect I thought it would be a good time to change the sofa cover from white back to charcoal grey just in case some tea gets spilt.

I'm going to add some pink accents in the next few weeks.

We’re still working on renovation projects but the house is no longer the repository for loads and piles of building materials (until I order the oak flooring).

What is your next focus for your home?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. The Ikea covers are so reasonably priced it allows for variety. The most difficult part is putting the slips on the cushions correctly. Jo
