End of the Year Git ‘Er Dun

As I posted yesterday the Viking came over to work on a few projects on Tuesday.  He also helped us whittle down the leftovers from Boxing Day.

The master bedroom bookshelves are roughed-in. Next item: trim them up.

In addition to yesterday’s advance he and Charlie also worked on our bedroom bookshelves.

The master bathroom shower will have glass wall to wall with a door in the middle-ish.

As one thing begets another I emailed on December 28th for an estimate for our shower glass and the owner of a highly recommended local company stopped by on the 29th (whilst everything else was happening) to measure and procure our wishes as to the details: size, finish, extras.

Here is the layout for the master bath -- not as simple as I thought due to strength issues.

I want to write a separate post about the glass ordering because there are things I learned that I wouldn’t have considered before asking and being asked a host of questions.

Our toilet came without seats.

After this busy day Charlie and I dragged ourselves to Lowes, not the nearest one because we had been there the night before, but a store in the area which had in stock the toilet seats we had decided on.

I found it hilarious that a plain white toilet seat has BOLD. STYLE. Really?

There’s more to picking a toilet seat than meets the eye and pocketbook.

Last day of the 2015 — Celebrate safely, my friends.

Are you making a little noise tonight?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Your bedroom is going to look so nice with the shelves. Sounds like the glass shower door is going to be kind of complicated. It there any way you could just leave it open and not have any glass? Air is much easier to keep clean…

  2. That shower is awesome! We have a very small bathroom that needs to be done next. We’re still trying to save up the money to do it. The big debate has been… bathtub with shower… or shower only. My vote is for shower only. I can’t remember the last time I took a bath.

    1. We chose showers only in our 2 newly built bathrooms but we have another tiny bathroom with a tub. If someone came with a child they’d want a tub, I think. Jo
