Stay Focused

Yesterday was supposed to be a great day of tidying and cleaning but it turned out to be a day I stayed in bed most of the morning just trying to snap out of all the aches and pains of a full-on cold.

I love a well-made cup of coffee.

Charlie took mercy on me and served me toast and coffee in bed which improved my sense of wellness quite a bit.

The pieces of toilet came in a box inside a box of form-fitting foam.

Three of four boxes of toilets were delivered on Friday which had to be inspected within 48 hours of delivery. The last box is slated to be delivered Monday.

The toilets were well packed and difficult to loosen from their foam nests.

It took all Charlie’s strength to wrangle the inner boxes from the foam they were packed in. We examined the porcelain carefully for chips and cracks and found none.

One toilet is in the conservatory bathroom awaiting installation.  The tank part of the second toilet is in the master bathroom awaiting its mate.

Not sure what Charlie is looking for -- maybe he's resting from lifting the piano twice.

We also worked together to roll out the dining room rug.  I rolled the rug; Charlie lifted the piano. Seems fair, right?

We decided to mount the tree in the living room window facing the front of the house.

Charlie had already wrapped the tree in lights while I was in my feverish stupor.

Wrapped and ready to go under the tree.

And we put the presents under the tree.

What present would you like to get this year?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Sometimes you need a day to rest! And that rug is so vibrant. What a nice color. My Christmas wishes came true – my parents are here to visit and we are blessed, as always, with more than we could ever ask for. Plus, there’s way too many gifts to be opened. 🙂 Merry (early) Christmas!

    1. Danielle, your Christmas sounds truly blessed. I can’t let myself be truly sick until after the Christmas eve cantata then I’m a lazy slob. Jo
