A Few Updates

My plan for today is to clean the dining room and the kitchen.

The dining room table and floor need to be decluttered.

After all in a few days I need to cook a major dinner.

Charlie uses his kitchen counter as a paper catchall and then complains that he has no room to work. Hmmm.

Most of the paper piles belong to Charlie.  He is either going to get rid of them — or I am.

The final unpainted section was on the back of the house.

And he will have no excuse because at long last the house is painted.

The paint job took us, off and on, about 3 months. Whew!

Yesterday he stroked on the final patch of Sandy Hook Gray paint.

I’m hoping that somewhere in the piles of stuff is my camera battery charger.

I also must iron a table cloth and napkins.

And we need to do a major grocery shopping. I hope everybody else decides to go in the morning because I plan to go tonight.

This is a fun time of year.

I hope to show you a house ready for guests soon. And our to-do list for the end of the year.

Do you have a goal to accomplish before the end of the year?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Congratulations on completing the house painting – that was a major job! I know there will be things to finish up on it but what a relief it must be to have the main part done and crossed off the list. Several small goals to finish by the end of the year, but time sure is slipping by fast.

  2. I woke up this morning and there was snow on the ground. I thought of you and said “I hope Jo gets her house painted before they get snow!” and what do you know, it’s done 🙂 Good luck on getting your house clean. I’m hoping to get the rest of my upper cabinets painted before the end of the year.

  3. I hope you had a productive day–that’s a lot to accomplish. It wasn’t that long ago that my dining room resembled yours! Congrats on finishing the house painting! The pic with the small unpainted section really shows that the previous color was a pale gray. It wasn’t so noticeable in photos before when there was more of it.
I intend to paint the living/dining/foyer/hall over my 2-week Xmas break. Or at least get a good start! 🙂

  4. the house looks fantastic!!! in one picture, it looks like the water tank or oil tank or whatever that white thing is behind your house has a corner painted the same color as the house – is that just a shadow? or are you guys painting it? i can’t remember what you’ve said about it in past posts. congrats on the painting being done – it looks SO SO SO good!

    1. We’re painting it and we tried brushing some on in that corner but have decided it would be better sprayed. While we need the tank and it won’t fit in the basement it should blend much better painted. Jo
