So Gloomy

It’s not quite raining but the weather is so gloomy.

No progress on the master bedroom except now I have a chair in the room.

While I haven’t made much progress on my projects (waiting for Thanksgiving’s long weekend) I have started moving things around a bit.

The back of the house at the end of October.

Just a small patch remains to be painted. In the mean time the front is finished.

And Charlie has continued to paint the exterior of the house.

I’ve also signed the tile setter’s contract and sent him a deposit.  He promises to start just after Thanksgiving.

The front edge of the kneewall needs to be covered in Hardiebacker board and the floor joint waterproofed.

Charlie has a bit more cement board to put in the bathrooms before the tiling starts.

After the kneewall is covered with Hardiebacker board it will be covered with the red-orange waterproofing called RedGard.

And the tiler would like a bit more waterproofing brushed onto spots where water might pool.

Are you trying to gather the bits and pieces before the holidays get into full swing?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. It looks like you pulled this off! I’m grappling with disappointment. The Irishman told me he was all better and ready to work all week and have all my woodwork and kitchen cabinets installed by Friday. But actually he’s out of commission for the foreseeable future.

    1. I know what you mean. Our answer to your Irishman is our Viking. We’re hoping he can give us another weekend very soon, like this Saturday. Jo

  2. the chair looks great in the bedroom! do you leave your AC in the window all winter, or is that on the list of upcoming projects? ours are built into the walls so we don’t/can’t take them in/out.
