Painting Update

Between our schedules and wet weather we’re having a tough time getting the exterior of the house fully painted.

The front of the house is the last exterior wall to be painted.

I started painting on the front of the house yesterday.

I started cutting in around the electric box then the rain started.

Ten strokes into it a planned day of painting the rain started to fall.

The wall of the new addition (kitchen downstairs, master bathroom and closet upstairs) has a lot of square footage.

We did have some progress earlier in the week — now the entire west side is painted Sandy Hook Gray.

The rectangular windows will get shutters, hopefully next spring.

So the east side is finished, the west side is finished.

The back of the house is well on its way to finished.

The back is almost finished and the front is left to do.

Notice how different the paint color looks when its wet, damp, and dry. Very misleading.

I checked this week’s weather — a few clear days and a few rainy days.

Does weather influence your mood?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. Hi Jo! It looks great! I have one concern from your pictures – the electric feed to your meter is not in conduit. In our part of the country that would not pass inspection. Love the color!

      1. Yep- if it’s inspected it must be fine. In our neck of the woods they make us put everything in conduit. And our city is more strict on a lot of things – keeps the bureaucrats in business. The color ooks great Jo!
