Weekday Chores

Charlie got started on the more difficult exterior painting.

We bought an extension ladder years ago for projects like cleaning the gutters and painting the house.

We were going to wait until our friend brought us  an industrial spray painter.

Charlie decided to take down the long downspout so he could paint behind it.

Instead Charlie started painting with a 4-inch brush at the highest part of the house.

Even with a 4-inch brush the painting is slow-going.

He leaned our extension ladder up against the wall, carried up a bucket of paint and the brush and got started.

Not sure why a piece of string is hanging out the window.

I’ll be able to help on the weekend especially if Charlie leaves the low-down painting. Since that’s the most fun part he might want to finish that himself also.

While Charlie was on the tall ladder in front of the attic vent he was prepared to hold on if a bat flew in his face. Who thinks of that?

There’s also a lot of trim that needs to be scraped, primed, and painted. But it’s going to look so nice.

I'll let you ponder what this might be for. I hope it works.

In the mean time I ordered the above little item.

Do you find yourself looking for items that don’t seem to exist? Are you just ahead of your time?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I’m praying for Charlie while he does the ladder work. Would it help if he had a hook on the top of the ladder to hang the paint can from?
