I’ve Measured and Re-measured

For some reason I haven’t ordered the master bathroom tile. Could the issue be money? Hmm.

Marble basketweave tile for the floor and ice white subway for the shower walls.

I picked it out ages ago.

I'm hoping the salesperson at the tile store will concur with the amount I have calculated.

I just want to be sure that I have enough so I printed out a photograph of the shower area and marked it up with measurements so I have something in hand when I go to the tile store. People don’t seem to understand when I just start waving my hands around.

Perhaps the top of the knee wall and the shower seat should each be a single piece of tile or marble and have a decorative edge.

I don’t want to buy too much extra. (Just get out your debit card and be quiet, Jo.)

Should my bench have an ogee edge and a special baseboard?

I’d like to buy both tile types, marble basketweave and ice white ceramic, at the same place if possible depending on price.

The knee wall could be capped something like this -- one piece of marble with an applied edging.

I am now definitely on the tiling contractor’s schedule in November so I must order it just in case there’s a hold up. (Why would I ever think that?!)

I also need to calculate how much and what type of bullnose edge will be needed on the walls where the tile abruptly ends.

I also need to pick grout. Does it ever end?

What’s frustrating you?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. I almost can’t believe it will happen. After the tile: fixtures, glass, and the vanity (which as you recall I need to re-choose due to a Pottery Barn snafu). Jo

    1. Absolutely decided to keep things simple but to use a slab of marble on the kneewall. Every decision is excruciating then comes the price tag. Yikes! Jo
