How Does It Get This Way?

I had a whole list of errands I wanted to accomplish after work.

I wanted to stop by the local nursery for some Fall color.

Nothing — nothing on the list was tackled.

It's so easy just to leave everything where it lands in the process of painting the house.

Instead I decided to clean up the side porch which has become “paint central” with all the tools, brushes, stirs, and paint cans necessary for the outside painting.

Not a very pleasant welcome.

Every time I drove up to the house I’d see this clutter.

I need a little help to get the olive tree up to the top step.

I moved the plants around and put the olive trees near the front and back doors.

The rosemary pots smell nice when we pass them going in and out. (How about a little grass mowing on the little bit of grass we have?)

I replaced them with pots of rosemary which we’ve been growing all summer.

These are easier to work on at a table in the back then cluttered on the porch.

I moved my propagation experiments to the back yard.

Here are the dried hydrangeas from this post.

Finally without making too many changes I gave the side porch entrance a calmer and more visitor-friendly appearance.

The porch is transitional from summer to autumn.

I checked some items off the list the following morning and will just keep trying to git ‘er done.

What’s your favorite autumn adventure?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
