Interior Doors: The Paint Color

I laid out my paint swatches to see what color would harmonize with all the rooms.

Sparrow is a dark, warm grey verging on brown used for the interior side of the exterior doors.

I wanted something value-wise between the dark warm grey “Swallow” on the insides of the exterior doors .  .  .

Greys, blues, and greens with subtle differences.

And the brighter wall shades:  Moonshine and Tea Light.

Paint I mixed for the shelving in the master bedroom.

I had chosen “Secret” by Benjamin Moore for the shelves in the master bedroom. (I custom mixed it from paint I had on hand to the approximate color on the swatch.)

The door on the left will be painted; the wood doors will be stained.

The winning color is for the doors (8 of them) is a bluish-grey called:

Silver Half Dollar should look nice on interior doors.

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. Thanks, Becky. Our old doors are white but the new ones are a shade of pale grey, something like unfinished drywall. The new shade is almost blue — hope I like it on the doors. Jo

    1. I got a gallon of Sparrow in eggshell Aura paint for $5 (usually over $60) in the mismatched paint aisle at our local hardware store. I couldn’t turn it down. Jo
