Dispersing the Doors

We had a delivery of doors last week which were put on our side porch.

Five pre-hung doors have been leaning up against the porch wall for about a week.

Our builder friend told us they should actually be stored in the house to acclimate them before installation.

The two doors that belong upstairs were a tight fit on the steps.

Our son came over for Mother’s Day and helped Charlie haul the doors, which were too heavy for me, into the various rooms: 2 upstairs, 3 downstairs.

Solid doors in both six-panel and Shaker styles.

The doors weigh between 50 and 75 pounds and are awkward to carry alone.

Charlie and son handled the heavy doors with ease.

The 3-foot wide door for the conservatory bathroom as well as the 2 upstairs doors came up the ramp and through the front door.

We’re storing the upstairs doors in the future master closet.

The conservatory bathroom door is leaning against the fireplace but not for long since we all feel the doors should be stored in a vertical position.

The back steps are not too difficult to scale even with a heavy door.

The boys brought the two conservatory Shaker-style closet doors up the back steps.

They almost nicked the conservatory ceiling trying to stand the doors upright.

We’re storing them very near their final destination in front of the closet with the new shelf.

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

    1. No work for me on Mother’s Day except leading music at church. I had even dispensed with the choir in favor of a soloist. Jo
