Getting Ready for a Work Weekend

We’re planning to work on some of our big projects this weekend.

This guy can cut a round hole with a circular saw. Amazing!

First and foremost our friend who knows everything (in a good way) is coming to help us.

We're ready to lay the subfloor in two bathrooms.

It usually turns out that we help him since he’s the only one of us who really knows what he’s doing.

Six sheets of plywood are on the bottom of this pile of trim lumber.

We’re planning to lay the subfloors in the two bathrooms.  We already ordered and received shipment of plywood which is the first layer needed on the floors.

We ordered supplies from Home Depot on- line and picked them up last night.

Yesterday I placed a Home Depot order for Hardie backer and fasteners.

Our local lumber yard delivered five special order doors.

Also this week five new interior doors were ordered and delivered.

Two guys plus Charlie unloaded the doors.

They should make such a difference in finishing our rooms.

We stacked the doors on the side porch until we're ready to install them.

This is a big list but once we get started I’m hoping we’ll get some momentum and really start to finish up.

Does DIYing scare you? Or are you up to it?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. i’m amazed that your friend can cut a round hole with a circular saw… holy cripes! that’s talent. you have so much going on! diy does scare me, but i get such a rush when things finally go right… b/c you know they never go right on the first try! or second… but it’s a wonderful accomplishment as you look over all the stuff you’ve done.

    1. When I look at where we were 1 year or 2 years ago and realize I hadn’t even planned to start the renovation until 2015 I feel ahead of the game. Jo
