Every Room Needs Red

Once upon a time my mother told be that every room needs some red in it.

For instance, in the living room I have a couple of red leather frames.

And even though I’m a cool blue, green, grey girl I try to use this tip in every room.

Five doorways and six windows don't leave much actual wall space.

Most of the conservatory is doorways and windows with little wall space.

This 19" by 24" peony print will brighten up the green walls of the conservatory.

But the newly painted green conservatory is getting its red in this peony print I’ve hung on the largest wall.

The wall color is "Tea Light," a pale green, which is not true to color in this photo.

I was afraid the green matte would clash with the green wall but in fact it enhances it.

We usually keep the television parallel to the wall with the artwork.

It’s hung a little high so it can be seen over the television.

What must-have is in your décor repertoire?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

one day in the far future I’d love to add an orangery to the cottage, I say orangery instead of conservatory as that is one way to get around the planning consent in a conservation area LOL
